Puerto Rico
I took full advantage of the incredible beaches!
Actually, I had a pretty special moment here
¡Ay que rico viajar a Puerto Rico!
In August 2022 I visited the beautiful island of Puerto Rico for my best friend’s 30th birthday!
We stayed at the Wydham Grand Rio Resort. This is by far one of the nicest resorts I have ever stayed at, and the amenities and food were to absolutely die for.
I just wish I had known ahead of time that everything is cashless!
I also wish I had looked into more things to do in in El Yunque National Forest and at the resort itself as the location is pretty isolated from the rest of Puerto Rico. We ended up going into San Juan only once; (for the incredible food tour I’ll describe shortly) it was about an hour long Uber ride from the Wydham.
Don’t get me wrong- Puerto Rico was an absolute blast, but it was also a reminder of why I prefer to travel solo.
Aqui, se puede: here, it can be done! San Juan is known for its sporadic showers, so we all had to buy ponchos at the last minute- I’d highly recommend
Hands down the highlight of my time in Puerto Rico was the Savor the Sunset: Old San Juan Walking Food Tour. We had 5-6 stops; EACH absolutely scrumptious, including a rooftop bar and gourmet popsicles for dessert. The guide even had a special pastry for my best friend and the vibe was just incredible.
Honestly, I didn’t have a single bad meal while on the island of Puerto Rico. Things were more on the expensive side but worth every penny.
It is also worth noting that overwhelmingly the guests at the resort and on our food tour were people of color. My best friend and I called it the Hawaii for POC.
We had an all white dinner party for Ronisha’s 30th
I’m usually the designated group selfie taker
Puerto Rico was definitely a vibe! I think next time I would stay in Old San Juan- I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I guess some places are just too fancy for me!
You and your boo would have a nice bougie time at the Wydham though!
Puerto Rico was just one of several parts of Latin America that I explored in the early 2020’s. Read about my time in Colombia here and my explorations in Guatemala and El Salvador here.
